CEP807: Capstone in Educational Technology
Dr. Matthew Koehler, Spencer Greenhalgh, Brittany Dillman, Sarah Keenan
This course served as a reflection of what I learned in the Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) program at Michigan State University (MSU) and a looking glass into what lies ahead for me as an educator and technology integrator. Reflections of my work from the MAET program and from my work experiences while in the MAET program came together in this course through a digital portfolio. The creation of the portfolio put the web design skills I learned in previous courses into practice. Because of this course, I can easily share my journey through the MAET program with others.

CEP800: Psychology of Learning in School and Other Settings
Jon Good, Dr. Danah Henriksen, Rohit Mehta
What are the theories throughout history of how knowledge is constructed? As a class, we applied different theories to many scenarios, discovering how we can help our students construct their own knowledge. We created videos to share those ideas with each other and the greater cyber community. We also used a process of backwards design to determine pedagogy and forms of technology that would best help us meet specific goals in our classrooms.
CEP815: Technology and Leadership
Jon Good, Dr. Danah Henriksen, Rohit Mehta
Technology is a wonderful tool when combined with pedagogy and content knowledge. This course explored how technology can be used to assist learning, ethical uses of technology, and tensions for technological leaders in the workplace. Each group in this class was charged with producing a webinar to be broadcast on the MAET Bridge series. Through that particular project, I connected with experts in Universal Design for Learning from around the country.
CEP822: Approaches to Educational Research
Jon Good, Dr. Dr. Danah Henriksen, Rohit Mehta
Through one large project, students in this course researched the topic of misconceptions that are brought into the classroom. We read about and discussed in depth the impact that preconceived notions can have on learning. Each group in this class chose a common misconception to research, interviewed people about that misconception, analyzed the results of those interviews, and compiled them into a video to share with the MAET community. The course drove home the point that misconceptions must be debunked before new knowledge can be constructed.

CEP817: Learning Technology through Design
Jon Good, Dr. Punya Mishra
Design is everywhere. Although the biggest takeaway from this course was skill in web design, the course taught about using technology for learning by examining design in all aspects of our lives. Design skills were put into practice in a web space designed to use in our classrooms. Aside from a self-created resource to use in my teaching, the course taught me to look at the world around me with the eyes of a designer.

CEP820: Teaching Students Online
Dr. Anne Heintz, Sandra Sawaya
This course gave me experience teaching students in a hybrid format, combining my regular face-to-face instruction with teaching from a course management system. While learning about the latest trends and research in online learning, we created online course modules to be used with our own students. I was able to apply what I learned from this course to an online unit on jazz music. One of the strengths in the online teaching that I did through this course was the presence of my personality in an online setting.

TE846: Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners
Kari Richards
Teaching of reading and writing is not as much of a focus for me, as a music teacher, as it is for many of my colleagues. This course helped me discover areas in my music teaching where I can supplement literacy learning that is happening in the general education classroom. An in-depth case study with a struggling reader gave me experience testing and teaching reading in an individualized way. I also have a better understanding of how students are learning to read so I can extend that into my music classroom.

CEP810: Teaching for Understanding with Technology
Allison Keller, Craig McMichael, Jodi Spicer
As the first course in my master's program, this course introduced me to the benefits of a personal learning network and online collaboration. Groups worked together in this class to create wikispaces for Special Interest Groups that could be used by colleagues and the greater community outside of our class. Individually, we used various forms of technology to connect our own classrooms with MSU's campus, resulting for me in a lesson on jazz music connected to the East Lansing Summer Solstice Jazz Festival.
CEP811: Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education
Allison Keller, Craig McMichael, Jodi Spicer
No two students learn the same way. After learning about the principles of inquiry and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), we practiced designing and redesigning lessons that would differentiate our instruction and help students construct their own knowledge. This course left me with a web-based inquiry project and a carefully constructed unit on vocal technique that I continue to use in my classroom. The concept of UDL influences the lessons I create and the technologies I choose to use in my classroom.
CEP812: Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice
Allison Keller, Craig McMichael, Jodi Spicer
In this course, we reflected on how technology affects the way we live and learn. All forms of technology offer affordances and constraints. We explored how we could use technology to work toward solving problems we have in our own practices and how technology might pose new problems. The importance of having an online presence within a personal learning network, contributing to the online community, and using the Internet ethically were all addressed in this course.
